The Onyx, Cape Town

City Centre Residential Conversion

Architect: Robert Silke & Partners

Client: Signatura

Contract Value: R200,000,000.00

Completed: March 2018

John Rabie's Signatura chose us to convert the iconic Nedbank building on the Heerengracht into 210 high-end metropolitan apartments & hotel suites.

Mies van der Rohe's black glass signature architecture became known as ‘The International Style’ and is a design meme that spread to sophisticated cities around the world, including Cape Town, where Nedbank’s elegant 1968 Foreshore head office is now being transformed into The Onyx.

We’re intervening surgically in the façade with futuristic and curvaceous aluminium balconies. Insodoing, we’ll be animating the striking black surfaces with luxurious, yacht-like terrace features in crisp white.
